Anxiety and Panic Attacks: The Cold Hard Facts

Dealing with anxiety and panic attacks can be an excruciating experience. Anxiety and panic attacks are the most common anxiety disorders and in fact there are millions of people around the world right now who are dealing with this very problem. Fortunately there are some great treatments that are available but before you can take this step forward, you need to understand what it is that is actually causing your panic attacks in the first place. Anxiety is the number one cause of panic attacks.

When it comes to treating anxiety and panic attacks with medication, there are a few types that are most commonly prescribed. There are the beta blockers for one, which are most often prescribed for people who have panic attacks as a result of social anxiety disorder. But then there are some people who feel anxious all the time, sometimes even when they are just sitting at home and there is nothing really going on. This can cause serious problems and more than anything causes stress and tension in the person’s life because they find that they are unable to relax.

The beta blockers work by controlling the physical symptoms that are associated with panic disorders caused by social anxiety. You want to try and keep yourself calm and not let yourself get even more worked up because this is going to make the anxiety and panic attacks that much harder. You want to make sure that you are thinking in your panichead and reminding yourself that the attack will be over in a matter of minutes. Tricyclic antidepressants are used to treat severe depression and panic attacks associated with anxiety and they do work well but you can expect certain side effects as a result of taking these drugs.

Side effects can be mild but could possibly include anything from dry mouth and weight gain to disturbed sleep patterns and irritation. Anyone who has had this problem knows firsthand just how hard it can be to live with this sort of problem. At least there are ways to get better and treatments that are available which are going to help with this problem and make sure that you are able to start living a normal life once again. Work with your doctor to find the best solution and one that you are going to be able to use for the long term and not just for the short term because that is not what the goal should be here.
