Symptoms of Bi-Polar Depression

Depression is more than a bad mood or what you feel when you experience a breakup. Instead, it is a serious medical condition that can affect a person's work and school performance. Depression can make a person feel alone in the world, sad, angry, and can even lead to self-destructive thoughts and behaviors. In fact, if manic depression is not dealt with, it can lead to a person losing his or her job and can affect their friendships and ability to connect and engage with the world. This is why it is so important to seek help if you feel as though you are suffering from this mental condition.

The earlier you deal with this condition, the more success you will find with treatment options. In time, if you work on your depression with the help of a professional, you can lead a full and balanced life. The following are some symptoms or signs of bi-polar or manic depression.

Sleeping Issues

If you have depression, it is common for you to have issues sleeping. Some people will want to sleep the day away whereas other people will want to stay up for two days straight. This inability to sleep at a consistent rate can make a person sick, and it will definitely make it difficult to stay in school or to work a traditional 9-to-5 job. Generally, a person will experience an extreme bout with insomnia only to follow this time by collapsing and wanting to sleep for days on end.

Spikes and Dips in Energy

A person suffering from this kind of depression will be completely energized one minute and will be completely lethargic the next. The same goes for a manic depressive's mood: they can be happy one minute and then immobilized by sadness the next. If you never know how you or a loved one is going to feel, then this is a major sign that they are suffering from depression.

Erratic Decision Making

A person with depression will be bound to make snap judgments or decisions without thinking them through all of the way. In this case, a person will have a thought and immediately act on it. Thus, if they are up late at night and get the urge to travel across country, they will hop and their car and do just this. If a person has the urge to dye their hair at 4 in the morning, they will do just this.
